BlackJack II Tethering for Leopard (OS X 10.5) - USB

Author's IMPORTANT Note: I'm 99.9% sure that you DO NOT need to do the Internet Sharing Hack to get this working, however, I had it installed before getting this to work, but do not use it when tethered by USB.)

Advantages to USB Tethering:

  • Charges the phone while connected
  • Possibly faster (if you're getting a HSDPA connection of over 3Mbps)
  • Less radio garbage in the air

Steps:
1. Disable ActiveSync on the BlackJack II.
2. You may have to "Install The Internet Sharing Stuff," but I doubt it.
3. Attach your USB cable to both the BlackJack II and the Mac.
4. Open up the Network Preferences Pane on your Mac.
5. Add a New Interface (The plus sign at the bottom left under the list of interfaces already available). Leopard includes the driver for this modem by default, choose "SAMSUNG CDMA Technologies" as the Interface, and name the Service "BlackJack II (USB)"

6. Configure the Interface. THE CASE OF WHAT YOU TYPE IS IMPORTANT FOR ALL OF THESE FIELDS

  • I only modify the "Default" Configuration here (as should most users).
  • Telephone Number: WAP.CINGULAR
  • Account Name: WAP@CINGULARGPRS.COM
  • Password: CINGULAR1
  • Make sure that "Show modem status in menu bar" is checked.

7. Press "Advanced..."

  • In the Modem Tab, set the following settings (once again, case is important):
  • Vendor: Samsung
  • Model: GPRS (GSM/3G)
  • APN: WAP.CINGULAR
  • CID: 3

8. Leave the Advanced Menu by hitting OK
9. *IMPORTANT*Click Apply
10. Click Connect, Cross Fingers.
11. Please post feedback, questions, errors! It's the only way that these instructions will become more accurate.
